Onakoya also referred to Martinez as his "brother" and congratulated him on their shared achievement, stating, "This is a public acknowledgement and gratitude to you, my brother. Congratulations on our shared achievement."
The previous record for the longest chess marathon was held by Norwegian players, Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, who played for 56 hours, 09 minutes, and 37 seconds in 2018.
Onakoya had previously revealed that his attempt was aimed at raising funds and awareness for providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children across Africa. This incredible achievement not only showcases the power of collaboration and endurance but also highlights the importance of education and the impact it can have on communities around the world.
